Details
Plaquemine Depot Market is located in the former railroad depot building in the heart of Plaquemine’s historic district. Built in 1926, the brick structure was the center of town activities from the early 1900s to the mid-century. It was used as the city police station from 1968 until 1996, and was then restored and committed to economic development of the areas. The charm of the building was recaptured in its restoration. In 2006 a merchants cooperative was formed for the Depot, with merchants sharing space to offer a wide variety of good and services.
The Depot now houses unique shops like Bugs-N-Butterflies, which offers beautiful heirloom children’s clothing and gifts, as well as Geaux Bayou Nutrition, a local stop for loaded teas and protein parfaits. Visit the Depot for the local pop-up, Geaux Market, hosted the first Saturday of each month.
