The Louisiana ferry provides transportation across the Mississippi River from East Baton Rouge and Sunshine to access the western side of Iberville Parish (Plaquemine) for vehicles and pedestrians. It is widely used by both workers getting to their jobs and visitors who want a first hand experience of the Mississippi River. It is operated by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The ferry has a current capacity of 35 standard vehicles and operates on the half hour schedule. A toll fee of $1.00 is collected when boarding the ferry from Sunshine.
